Objectives

To deliver an initial overview of the autism spectrum, identify a clear timeline in the development of autism theory and diagnostic criteria progress and to explore communication styles of people through the voices of members of the autistic community.

In the course you will learn:

• The Identification of current diagnostic criteria and the dyad of impairments;
• Communication and interaction styles;
• Social imagination will also explore sensory processing differences and the additional difficulties faced women and girls on the autism spectrum;
• This session contains a video resource.

Objectives: 

To examine the theory of Executive Function Dysfunction Hypothesis and the reasons why organisation and planning is so difficult of autistic people.  To also examine the theory of ‘Theory of Mind’ (ToM) in autism. To identify and critically analysis the ‘tests’ and counter argument about the ability of autistic people to show empathy or read the intentions of others. 

In this course you will learn:

• The basics of autism theory including a critical examination of Theory of Mind (ToM) and the double empathy problem;
• How to identify and critically analysis the ‘tests’ and counter argument about the ability of autistic people to show empathy or read the intentions of others;
• How to explore the links between Weak Central Coherence, Executive Function Dysfunction and explore newer theories of Monotropism and Context Blindness in autism;
• The session will also explore sensory processing polarisation and autism theory.
• This session contains video resources. 

Objectives:

This course is a combination of Options 1 and 2 to give a fuller overview of Autism. You only need to book this course if you want both Options 1 and 2 delivered together.

In this course you will learn:

• How to identify current diagnostic criteria and the dyad of impairments;

• Women and girls on the autism spectrum;
• Social imagination and the need for sameness;
• A brief introduction to autism theory (Theory of Mind (ToM);
• Weak Central Coherence, Executive Function Dysfunction;
• The session will also explore sensory processing differences, masking, stereotypes;
• This session contains video resources and activities. 

Objectives: 

This course gives you the full programme, including Options 1 and 2, plus further in-depth learning.

In this course you will learn:

• How to identify current diagnostic criteria and the dyad of impairments;
• Explore the communication and interaction styles of autistic people;
• How to identify the additional stressors placed on women and girls on the autism spectrum social imagination and the need for sameness;
• A discussion of social imagination and an introduction to autism theory (Theory of Mind, Weak Central Coherence, Executive Function Dysfunction and Monotropism and Context Blindness);
• The session will also explore sensory processing differences, masking, stereotypes, and disclosure;
• This session contains a mixture of taught, video and group exercise elements.
