Research Project: Mapping autistic adults’ social identity
Who am I?
I am Sammy Williams. I am a member at Matthew's Hub and also a Postgraduate Researcher at York St John University. I am looking for autistic adults who would like to help me out with a study I am conducting called 'Mapping autistic adults' social identity'.
Research Summary
The purpose of this study is to investigate autistic adults’ experiences and feelings about identity across social settings. This is something which would be beneficial to learn about as much existing research into autistic people’s identity focuses on specific experiences of ‘autistic identity’ in isolation, whereas I am interested in gaining a more holistic view of your identity as a person, and how your experience may change across different settings.
Taking part in the study will involve speaking to me about your experiences and feelings about identity in different social settings. During the interview we will also be making a simple visual map to represent identity. The interview will take an estimated 30-60 minutes, but you are free to speak as much or little as you like.
Who can take part?
Any autistic adults (age 18 and over) who are willing to take part in an interview about identity.
