Oliver McGowan Training Introduction

Matthew’s Hub are proud to be an accredited provider in the delivery of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism in the North East, Yorkshire & Humber region.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.

The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a statutory requirement that regulated service providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role. This is to ensure the health and social care workforce have the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff. It is a standardised package approved by the government, ensuring consistency and recognition across health and care sector employers.

The training is co-delivered by people with lived experience of Learning Disabilities and Autism.

Matthew's Hub can offer various options within the Oliver McGowan programme as outlined with the rest of this section.
