Oliver McGowan Training
Matthew’s Hub are proud to be an approved provider in the delivery of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.
The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a legal duty for all health and social care providers to ensure staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role. Oliver McGowan is the government’s preferred training to meet this requirement. In the training, attendees hear directly from people with lived experience of learning disability and autism. Oliver’s training helps your organisation meet the mandatory requirements, and importantly it helps to improve safety, understanding, and the quality of care for autistic people and those with a learning disability.
Learning and Development Support Scheme funding (LDSS) is available for organisations who meet the criteria for the 2026/27 financial year.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff. It is a standardised package approved by the government, ensuring consistency and recognition across health and care sector employers.
The training is co-delivered by people with lived experience of Learning Disabilities and Autism.
